About the notebook

A little less magic.
A little more understanding.

Small Systems is a programming notebook about the pieces underneath everyday software.

Why these three subjects?

Go is a useful place to learn how a small service works. HTML gives a page its structure and meaning. CSS turns that structure into something comfortable to use. Together, they cover a surprising amount of the path from a request to a readable screen.

How to use the guides

Each guide focuses on one manageable idea, includes an example, and links to the original documentation. Start with a topic you need today. Read the code, change a value, and see what happens. Examples marked as complete programs can be run directly; smaller snippets are intended to fit into an existing project.

Small by design

This notebook is static HTML and CSS. There are no tracking scripts, advertising tags, sign-up gates, or external fonts. The RSS feed lets you follow the notebook in a reader of your choice.
